GETTING STARTED WITH KERACOLOR

How To use keracolor color + clenditioner

Important Notes: For maximum intensity, do multiple applications until desired color is achieved. Color + Clenditioner can be applied to dry hair for a bolder color. For more vibrant tones of color - bleached or prelightened hair to start is recommended. To maintain achieved tone, alternate with Clenditioner. Our Color + Clenditioners contain semi-permanent direct dye pigments and will gradually fade out from hair. Color results and longevity of hair color is dependent on the condition and porosity of the hair, and the intensity of the shade.

***If you are going to make a drastic color change, consult with a salon professional

FAST PRO TIPS:

I have never used any dye or bleach on my hair before

Starting with virgin hair

Virgin hair may take more consecutive washes and longer processing times for desired results.

  1. Apply chosen shade evenly from scalp to ends for an all over application.
  2. Apply to hair wet or dry (for a more vibrant shade), let sit for 3-20 minutes, thoroughly rinse and style as normal. For an even application, use a wide comb tooth to distribute product from scalp to ends.
Example:

If you have medium-blonde virgin hair and want a vibrant
Purple, you may need to apply the color for longer than 20 minutes or repeat
applications over multiple days.

I would like a more vibrant tone

Starting with colored or dyed hair/color refresh:

  1. Apply chosen shade evenly from scalp to ends for an all over application.
  2. Apply to hair wet or dry. Let sit for 3-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and
    style as normal.
Pro Tip:

Apply to dry hair for a more vibrant color application.

I am not looking to change colors, just give my current color a nice refresh.

Our Color + Clenditioners are perfect for refreshing your hair in so many different ways.If you already have a favorite one of our shades, simply refresh 1-2x a week to keep it vibrant. If you’re trying to maintain your salon color, pick the closest shade to what you have. All of our shades can be "cocktailed" together to create a customized color that works for you.

Pro Tip for Red Heads:
  1. Copper: This tends to lean more toward the orange side, but for a more natural red head tone, try mixing with our Original Clenditioner.
  2. Red: If a true red shade is too aggressive for you, try adding a pump of this with Copper or our Original Clenditioner.
Pro Tip for Brunettes:

Try these depending on your desired shade:

  1. Mocha (lighter, ashy brown)
  2. Espresso (darker, rich brown)
  3. Onyx (black)
Pro Tip for Blondes:

To keep your Blonde hair from going brassy, you have a few options!

  1. Platinum: Neutralizes unwanted yellow tones.
  2. Silver: Neutralizes unwanted orange/brassy tones.
  3. If your hair was professionally colored to a caramel tone, you can use Silver Blue once a week to prevent it from getting too brassy over time!
I have bleached/enlightened hair and I am ready to go
Starting with bleached/prelightened hair
  1. Apply chosen shade evenly from scalp to ends for an all over application on hair that has been prelighted.
  2. Apply to hair wet or dry (for a more vibrant shade), let sit for 3-20 minutes, thoroughly rinse and style as normal.
  3. For an even application, use a wide comb tooth to distribute product from scalp to ends.
Pro Tip 1:

Prelightened hair is a must for our pastel colors to show true to tone!

Pro Tip 2:

The Platinum Color + Clenditioner is a great option to use to remove any yellow or golden toned in the hair before applying any of the pastel colors!

I would like to make a custom color

To achieve a pastel hue, try mixing your favorite color with an equal amount of our Clenditioner.

WHAT LEVEL IS MY HAIR?

A hair level chart is the most consistent way to figure out your base hair color. It is a universal system to standardize hair color charts. Your level refers to how light or dark your hair color is. The lower the number the darker the color. It’s important to know your hair color level you are starting with, and what hair color level you want, so you can find your perfect shade. Use the chart below to find your starting shade.

COLORS BY LEVEL

LEVELS 1-5

Levels 1-4 you will want to prelighten your hair to get any new color to show.

Levels 5 is the darkest possible for a visible tint of color without pre-lightening. If your hair is in this range, you will get the best results with similarly dark colors to have any visible hue. Colors to use: Onyx and Espresso

LEVELS 6-10

Level 6 and 7 Most of our vivid and highly pigmented colors will take well to hair at levels 6 and 7, and may just turn out a few shades darker or more subtle than they would appear on a pre-lightened base. Colors to use: Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Merlot, Mocha, and Copper

Level 8 The majority of our colors turn out really vibrantly, with the exception of our pastel collection. Onyx Espresso and Mocha are also not recommended for level 6 or higher. Colors to use: Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Honey, Merlot, and Copper

Level 9 Almost any color will work on this base color and depending on the porosity of your hair, some pastels may take to a level 9 as well. Colors to use: Rosegold, Light Pink, Mint, Platinum, Silver, Silver Blue, Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Honey, Merlot, and Copper

Level 10 Any color will work on this base color. Pastels will turn out best on a level 10 base or lighter, since these pigments are quite light. Colors to use: Rosegold, Light Pink, Mint, Platinum, Silver, Silver Blue, Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Honey, Merlot, and Copper

COLORS BY COLLECTION

The pastel color collection includes: Rosegold, Light Pink, Mint, Platinum, Silver and Silver Blue. To achieve the best results, we recommend using on bleached hair only at a level 9 or higher. Individual results vary depending on the color and hair color history.

Vivids Color Collection

The vivids color collection includes Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Lemon, Purple, Red, and Teal. Vibrants can be used on bleached hair for vibrant true to tone color. To achieve the best results, we recommend using on bleached hair only at a level 7 or higher. It can also be used on light to medium blondes for rich vibrant tones with depth on darker hair. Level 6 or lower starting level will result in little to no visible tint of color. Individual results vary depending on the color and hair color history.

The naturals color collection includes: Honey, Merlot, Mocha, Onyx, Espresso and Copper. Naturals are great for enhancing and refreshing hair colors in between salon services and generally works well with Level 7-10 starting hair levels. Except, Onyx, espresso and mocha are not recommended on starting levels of 7 or higher. Level 6 or lower starting level will result in little to no visible tint of color. Individual results vary depending on the color and hair color history.
